Being hailed by multiple news outlets as

“the biggest horror comic since The Walking Dead,” Something Is Killing the Children is set to usher in Hollywood’s next era of horror with the exciting announcement that the critically acclaimed comic series will receive both an animated TV series and a live-action movie adaptation.

Emerging as the victor of an intense bidding war, Blumhouse has secured the rights to James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera’s Something Is Killing the Children. The breakout horror comic follows Erica Slaughter, a mysterious and highly skilled monster hunter from the House of Slaughter, who arrives in the small town of Archer’s Peak, where children have been vanishing or turning up dead.

Without giving too much away, the series blends dark, moody art with intense suspense and graphic horror, making it one of the most mature and gripping horror comics in recent years, and

perhaps the next to achieve The Walking Dead-level success now that it’s set to receive both a series and movie adaptation.

How Something Is Killing the Children Became the Biggest Horror Comic Since
The Walking Dead

From Indie Underdog to Eisner-Winning Phenomenon: Can It Truly Become the Next Walking Dead?

Something Is Killing the Children debuted in September 2019 and has since become the biggest horror comic since

The Walking Dead. The series boasts impressive accolades: its first issue sold over 175,000 copies across multiple printings and has sold more than 5 million copies overall since launch, an astounding feat for an indie title.

These numbers are remarkable for an independent comic and hold their own even against mainstream Marvel and DC titles. The series also notablly earned an Eisner nomination for Best New Series in 2020 and won Best Series in 2022. Since its debut, Tynion has achieved three consecutive Eisner wins, an honor previously matched only by the legendary Alan Moore.

Something Is Killing the Children has also received other major honors, including a Harvey Award for Book of the Year and a Ringo Award for Best Series. Combined with its two upcoming adaptations, these accomplishments prove the series is poised to become the next

Walking Dead in terms of comic-to-screen

James Tynion IV Is Bringing Something Is Killing the Children to Life

With Both a Movie and TV Series in the Works, Will SIKTC Be Hollywood’s Next Horror Breakout?

Fans of the comic will be thrilled to learn that Tynion will play a key role in both adaptations. The adult animated series will feature Tynion as an executive producer and Dell’Edera as a co-executive producer, while the live-action movie will also see Tynion’s direct involvement in development.

This is exciting news for fans, as Tynion’s participation will help ensure that both the TV series and film remain true to the unique horror, mystery, and suspense that define the comic. The fact that

Something Is Killing the Children has secured both a movie and TV adaptation simultaneously (a feat even The Walking Dead didn’t achieve) shows just how much potential this next era of Hollywood horror holds.
