Philadelphia Flyers Linked to Potential Mason McTavish Trade
The Anaheim Ducks remain in talks with restricted free agent center Mason McTavish on a new contract. However, it seems that things haven't gone the way either side would have planned, and this has led to all sorts of trade speculation.
Anaheim has set a high asking price for McTavish, and so far, nobody has come close to reaching it. But if the Ducks were to trade the young center, they could likely net some strong future assets.
Mason McTavish to the Philadelphia Flyers?
NHL writer Ryan Dixon of Sportsnet put a list of teams together that could go after McTavish, and the Philadelphia Fly ers were one of them. Philadelphia could use another center, and the two sides may be perfect to be trade partners once again.
"I mean, there’s certainly a history here, given the Ducks and Flyers are linked up for the trades that sent Jamie Drysdale (for Cutter Gauthier) and Trevor Zegras (for two draft picks) from Orange County to the Keystone State.
"Even if Zegras sticks at centre in Philly, the rebuilding Flyers need lots of help down the middle. Ideally, captain Sean Couturier would be a 3C at this point in his career, and McTavish would actually have a great opportunity to snag the top-line centre job," Dixon wrote.
The Flyers make sense as a landing spot for McTavish, and the Ducks are very aware of their farm system due to the other trades that have gone done. McTavish could be a solid addition for the Flyers, helping to give them more legitimacy for the future.
Last season with the Ducks, McTavish scored 22 goals and 30 assists. The center has improved every season in the league and could be a steal in a trade.
Anaheim would likely prefer to keep the young center, but if the two sides can't come to terms on a deal, a trade could come about. The Flyers could likely make the Ducks a solid offer, and it could see the team move the former third overall draft pick.
